A friend of mine who is a veteran is making these once told me it is darn easy to make Bak Kwa yourself. I didn´t believe her because it just does not make sense why would someone pay so much for a packet of 500grams back home where one can easily churn out so many folds more.

I remembered back then when I was much younger, I would frawn upon seeing someone dressed in Qipao simply because it is just so err old-fashion? Its the twentieth century! I would exclaimed to whoever next to me. But here I am, 20 years older and faraway from the tradition I grew up in. I can´t wait to put them on to get intouch with my chinese roots :-D
Today, I clicked on an order again in addition to another one I did last week from a Malaysian side. Its an emotional buy, yes ...
But it is not often I get this way. Good excuse, right? :-D
I wanted to get a red one (below) but the size chart was a bit misleading ... and too small for me.
So, I got this (above) instead ... in black. Something which I felt suits any cocktail party or evening event. What do you think?
Anyway, I found something interesting in youtube regarding QiPao. No spoiler for you so here goes ...
Some mixture works really well. Chinese New Year does not have to be so boring does it? I remembered drinking lots of Fanta Orange and packets of Chrysenthamum Tea during house visit but why not add a bit of a twist to accompany the lovely spread when your guest arrive? This is so doable. What I did was mix 2 tablespoon of Kumquat syrup, 50 ml pineapple juice, 50 ml orange juice and 2 tbs Cointreau into a shaker with some ice and let it do its work. Its addictive and yummy!

Recently I read an article on a German daily site that using Facebook is detrimental to users in a survey. I am not sure where the survey was carried out but I´m assuming it is in Germany. It says that by using it, it injects the feeling of jealousy and envy. Haha. I was appalled by that finding BUT I can also relate to that at this point of them. For example, the amount of tantalising and atmospheric photo I´ve been browsing from across the globe and I´m super jealous for being here and not able to soak up the scene!
So there you go. I am jealous and I am envious of those of you back home!

I´ve tonnes of things to share with you all right now but blogger is refusing to load any photos on my post. I´ve tried looking up on blogger´s help page. It suggested a few things such as deactivate my pop up function etc but to no avail. So I´m dashed right now. Anyone knows what should I do? The last thing I did was loading up some youtube videos. Could that be it?

Our tree will usually come down after 6th of January - the day the 3 Kings brought gifts to baby Jesus. But I am still feeling the festive air and not wanting it to pass by so fast. In this very sense, I thank blogging for allowing me to document them here. Picture speaks a thousand words they say, but words crafted brings one back to time where it once was.
It was a quiet Christmas day. I offered to prepare dinner and invited Mama to join us. It is miserable eating dinner alone especially during festive period.
Appetiser was Gruyere Souffle which rised high and mighty for a couple of minutes. Then it sanked. Oh well. Better luck next time then.
Main course was Roast Pork with Wild Mushroom Stuffings, along with butternut squash, sweet potatoes, potatoes and red onion. Not wanting to go through the hecticness of last (oops, last last year), I kept it very simple by buying the readily stuffed meat from butcher. It worked really well, meat tasted great and I am sure to do this again.
Rasberry & Marcaporne Trifle, Mango & Papaya Slush, Creme Brulee, Caramel Parfait, Chocolate Mousse and Rasberry Yoghurt. Three variety each on our plate to end our meal, mixing and matching so that each get something which they fancy and yet not a replicate taste of the earlier. All store bought so it was just a matter of assembling. But tasted good nevertheless and works really well for a small family like ours.
